Founded in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial, the Dallas Museum of Natural History's mission is to further an understanding and appreciation of the natural world through collections-based, research-driven education and exhibition programs. This makes it the only public natural history museum of its kind in the region. Collections include rare and extinct animals, unique artifacts and fossils, and the type specimens from which entire species have been described. The museum also includes the world's largest exhibition of Texas wildlife habitats, and the first mounted Texas dinosaur in Texas.
